MORE COAL WANTED
Mr. Forde Talks To Miners (Received June 19, 7.30 pan.) SYDNEY, June 19. Australian coal production was short of consumption by 22,000 tons a week, the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. Forde, told miners in western New South Wales. He declared that failure to step up coal production immediately would result in industrial chaos.
The miners present pledged themselves to maintain production at its maximum.. They urged the Government to take steps to staff fully under-manned collieries, and ( asked for g. more equitable system oft taxation and an increase in the miners” butter ration. Mr. Forde promised the miners that the butter ration would be reviewed at the end of July.
