NEW RAILWAY LINE
Extension From Waterloo NAI NAI-TAITA LOCALITY Plans for the extension of the present railway line from M aterloo to Nai Nai, a distance of one mile and 50 chains, were announced on Saturday by the Minister of Works, Mr. Semide. He said that formation and ballasting work had been started. Formation along this length was very easy and should be completed in a few weeks. The Railways Department would then follow on with the platelaying.
Mr. Semple also said that plans for station buildings and overbridges were in hand. Some minor alterations to the alignment were under consideration in order to tit in with the town planning ot and Taita will be the main stations between Waterloo and the laita Gor fr e but there will also be stoppingplaces' for suburban traffic at. Epuiii and Cemetery Road,” said Mr. Semple. “M hen the line is completed to this point all the areas in the Nai Nai-Xaita locality, which are being prepared by the Government for housing purposes, will have a railway station within a-reasonable distance. “From Taita to Silverstream there are inanv complications in the way of providing for railway, river, and a modern highspeed road through the Taita Gorge, burvevs of several schemes are now nearing completion, and they will then be studied in detail so that the best arrangement to meet the circumstances can be deciueu on.”
