Party Representation

Sir, —I have just been reading an article in the “Spectator’ entitled Hie Machinery of Democracy” (Feb. 11, 1944). Reference is made to a book by Mr. R. W. G. Mackay, in which the plan is advocated of giving each party in the House the number of seats proportionate to the number of votes recorded for that party. 1 do not know if this has ever been considered or tried in New Zealand, or what would have been the result if this method bad been followed at. the last election. I should be glad if you or some of your readers would enlighten me on these matters. —I am. etc. —W. TYE. Titiui, June 16.
