OBITUARY

Mr. T. McCreary The death occurred unexpectedly on Tuesday at his residence in Kelburn of Mr. Thomas McCreary, a well-known retail tobacconist in Wellington. Mr. McCreary, who was born m Barrhead, Scotland..in 1877, came to New Zealand in 1911, and was for 16 years a member of the staff of Bing Harris aud Co. in Dunedin, first as a commercial traveller and later as a manager. Coining to Wellington in IXi, he entered the retail tobacco trade, and became prominent in the Detail Tobaccon ists’ Association, of which lie was PJ’esident for a number of years, relinquishing the office two months ago. He leaves a widow and one son, and a brother lives in Palmerston North and a sister in Dunedin.

Dr. Thompson was early in New Zealand. ,nn< was edu; cated at the Dunedin Boys Hi„h j and Otago University. He graduated M A in 1899 with first-class honours in English and French. He became a lecturer at the university and the Dunedin Technical School and was appointed -0 the professorial chair in 1916.

Mrs. R. M. Algie

The death hns occurred of Mrs. Algie, wife of Mr. 11. M. Algie, M.l. for Remuera. after a long illness, says al ress Association telegram from Auckland. In her vounger days Mrs. Algie was one of the foremost alpinists in New Z,eaJaii’i. She had ascended Mount Cook. She was a member of the Auckland Society ot Arts.
