Indian Sport Impresses
Dominion Special Service.
AUCKLAND. May 23. The Hawke’s Bay galloper Indian Sport went very stylishly in ids work at Lllerslie today when he rau five furlongs on the No. 2 grass with Dependable ;i> I.G 2-5. Indian Sport was hard held at the finish and could have done much better. He is in great heart and should not lack support in his coming engagements, which include the Cornwall Handicap. The time recorded by Indian Sport compared favourably with others during the morning, when the weather was fine and the ground was holding. The novice Vindicator showed more dasn than usual in beating Sir Fox over five furlongs in I.G 1-5. He ran the iast four furlongs in 53 and at last seems to be making some improvement. Vindicator is a three-year-old gelding by Night march from Entreaty, dam of Pliar Lap Lightmint was timed to run four furIdngs iu 56.. Yes Tor and Beaucoup covered six furlongs in 1.21, working nicely In the going. Victory Song pleased better than sir Dink over six furlongs in 1.20 1-5. Victory Song, a half-brother by Hunting Song to Sir Standfast, has trained on well since winning at his first start in the first division of the Dominion Handicap at Ellerslie last month. Tory Lass placed six furlongs behind in 1.23. She is very bright and muscular. Landveyor went nicely over four furlongs in 51 3-5. Flylite and Our Gold encompassed a round in 1.57. Flylite has been working solidlv and may run well in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Roman Duke was not bustled to run four furlongs in 54. Wee Pay and British Talent covered a round in 1.51. Dividend worked over a round, running the last seven furlongs in 1.44. He appears to have taken no harm from his race in the Te Rapa Steeplechase on Saturday. British Mint galloped seven furlongs tn 1.33 3-5, the last six in 1.19. He has not started since running unplaced In the Christmas Handicap at Ellerslie on December 27, but has been working regularly and is in good order. Sir Desmond sprinted four furlongs in 53 1-5. He is showing improved condition. Kraal completed her work with three furlongs in 38 1-5. She is looking a picture. Raphael ran three furlongs in 41 3-5. Rara Avis covered the same ground in 40. Kronos reeled off four furlongs in 51 4-5. He is thriving and has muscled up a good deal lately. Sir Dingle completed useful work with three furlongs in 42. Hackenschmidt led Sir Isaacs over the steeplechase fences on the flat and gave a good display. Sir Isaacs also shaped well. Many horses were schooled over hurdles and among them were Last Survey, who fell once, Surtoy, Hunting King. Nettarlon, Valspear, Shephcrd’tt Mate and a hunter from R. G. Stennlng's stable. Surtoy and Hunting King jumped well for beginners, and Shepherd’s Mate also acquitted himself very creditably. • Royal Duchess is suffering from a slight cold, and her owner, Mr. W. G. Grey, stated yesterday that she would not be a runner In the Cornwall Handicap. M. Coon is to rido Foxsen in the Great Northern Hurdles and Flylite In the Great Northern Steeplechase. J. Williamson Is te ride Bronze Night in the hurdles and Dividend in the steeplechase. F. Cleaver will ride Our Nation in the hurdles and Klnkle in the steeplechase.
