TOWN HALL OFFICES
Preparing For Return Move Some of the Wellington Town Hall offices which open off the northern half of the main ground floor corridor are being eleaned and repainted, and otherwise made habitable, following their disuse for more than IS months. After the second earthquake iu 1942 it was decided to remove the whole of the staffs of the town clerk aud city solicitor across the road to the new Central Library, in Mercer Street. Now the old quarters of the town clerk and city solicitor in the Town Hall have been restored to their former dignity, and there will be a further staff movement. But because of the plaster work that still requires to be done about the main stairway and corridor, the shift is not likely to be made for another week or so. In the meantime the old linoleum has been relaid in these offices, which certainly look brighter than ever before. The old city solicitor’s room is to be used by the city treasurer’s staff. This room has been altered, so that, at any time in the future, it may be converted into a “green room” for the main hall (as recommended by the architect, Mr. W. M. Page), and a door, cut in the western wall, now leads straight to the floor of the platform. In the past distinguished visitors have, had to be taken ttnsjairs to the mayor’s room, and tb“n downstairs again, and along a narrow illlighted corridor to the stage door of the hall. This awkward arrangement could be obviated if the “green room” were provided.
