DEFENCES INEFFECTIVE
LONDON. May 21. Without, entering the harbour at all, one of Britain’s nee submarine commanders. Lieutenant It. Gatehouse. D.S.C.. torpedoed an anchored German ship in an Aegean port by approaching the defence nets at the entrance and'iiring a torpedo through the boom gates. The torpedo scored a direct hit ou the ship, which blew up with a spectacular explosion.
