AIR WAR CONTRAST
Allies’ Terrific Week LONDON, May 21. The Exchange Telegraph agency’s Naples correspondent reports that over 1300 tons of bombs were dropped last week on targets close behind the German lines.-Heavy bombers and medium bombers, operating farther afield dropped 7250 tons. The week’s sorties totalled 13,710 for the loss of 74 planes. The Luftwaffe flew only 109 sorties over the battle areas. Our fighter bombers flew on a “cab rank” system, in relays, keeping the German positions constantly under attack. Our fighter-bombers were active yesterday in support of the ground forces and against forward enemy lines of communication. Others attacked shipping off the Dalmatian coast. Bad weather prevented heavy and medium bombers from operating. Six of our planes are missing. ‘
