PROGRESS TOWARD GREEK UNITY
Results Of Conference (Received May'2l, 8.20 p.m.) LONDON. May 20. A Greek spokesman announced that the political representatives meeting in conference in the Middle East have agreed in principle to merge all the guerrilla forces in a single national army under an all-party Government and to end the fratricidal strife in Greece, says the Beirut correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. The F.A.M. delebates are expected to announce their intention to disband the E.L.A.S. forces as soon as a generalissimo is appointed and the formation of a new army approved by the Allied headquarters in the Middle East. The E.A.M. is the fighting section of the E.L.A.S. resistance and political movement, claimed by a correspondent recently to be the largest in Greece. Representatives ot the 10 Greek political parties have been meeting in the Lebanon in an attempt to solve the political squabbles. Most ot tlie representatives came froip occupied Greece, but some were from Cairo. A message said that King George would not In invited. Colonel Venizelos. the new Prime Minister of the Greek emigre Government, would be present. Another message referred to the presence also of the “Greek Prime Minister, M. Papandreou,” -whose appointment to the Premiership was reported without further explanation in recent Press messages received via London.
