MARTIAL LAW IN ISTANBUL
Pro-Nazi Plotting. LONDON, May 18. The military authorities in Istanbul have proclaimed niqrtial law as the result of demonstrations against the activities of the Turkish pro-Nazi organization “Panturanian,” stated Ankara radio. The arrest of a number of leaders was ordered on charges of furthering tendencies directed against the Turkish Constitution and building up a nationwide organization aiming at the over.th- of the present regime in Turkey. The report added that while there is not yet direct proof that, the movement worked under the control of a foreign Power, the indications are that the organization was pro-German and based on racial and Fascist principles. The Russian newspaper “Red Star” comments sharply on the Bulgarian Government’s order for a general, mobilization. It says taht the Bulgarian rulers are hiding behind the retention of diplomatic relations with the Soviet Unjon. In the present conditions, these relations are becoming a cause of friction.
