STRIKE POSTPONED
Demand Of N.S.W. Dairymen (Received Mav 10. 7.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 19. Dairymen have decided to postpone their threatened strike which was to have started today. The strike threat followed the Federal Government’s refusal to grant a subsidy to dairymen of lid. a gallon for milk supplied to Sydney mid Newcastle. The Government agreed to pay Id. a gallon. The dairymen have now suggested that the New South Wales State Government supplement the Federal subsidy by the additoin of Id. a gallon Jill the Federal Government completes its promised inquiry into the matter. The payment of ljd. a gallon, it was said, would mean that dairy-farmers would receive 1/7ld. a gallon, the price recommended by the New South Wales Milk Board. The cost of the Id. subsidy to the Federal Government will be £360.060 a year.
