DOES FINE CROCHET AT AGE OF NINETY-THREE
Relatives from AVellington, Paekakariki and Norsewood were present for the ninety-third birthday celebrations of Mrs. M, A. Smith, held in Palmerston North on AVednesday. Mrs. Smith was born in Tasmania and came to New Zealand in 1880, making her home in Christchurch. She has lived in the Taranaki and AA’airarapa districts, aud latterly in Lower Hutt and Palmorstou North. Her husband died 10 years ago. In spite of her age, her faculties are unimpaired, and except" for the line crochet work at which she excels she does not even use glasses. She lives with her daughter, Mrs. M. E. Pitt, and bps five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Energetic Greytown W.D.F.U. Branch. The sum of £l6O was realized at a stall organized by the South Wairarapa branches of the W.D.F.U. during a recent gala in aid of patriotic funds. The president, Mrs. R. Bell, gave a comprehensive report of other activities for the year at the annual meeting of the Greytown branch of the W.D.F.U. Every local soldier. sailor or airman had received a gift of woollen comforts on going overseas, an ' the Leper Appeal and various worthy causes had been supported, as well as interest in all branches of the W.D.F.U. being sustained. Membership bad increased. A shop day to raise funds for branch activities is Io be held in the near future. The president. Mrs. R. Beu, the secretary, Mrs. W. Wiggins, and treasurer. Miss Eagar, wore re-elected
