Lower Hutt. of the sale of 8864 gallons of petrol in a manner not in accord with the terms of his licence, Walter Roseve Holder, a petrol station manager. Lower Hutt, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. It was stated by the prosecution that defendant had sold petrol for which he had no record as required by the regulations. He had been quite frank. Appearing for Holder. Mr. W. L. Rainey said that his client was merely a manager and had nothing to gain from selling petrol without permits. During the month ho had been extremely busy, having no assistance, and his records had got into considerable muddlement. The amount appeared large, but was really only 4 per cent of the turnover for the period in ouestion, and might easily be accounted for by the losing of a bundle of coupons or neglect to enter amounts sold to licence holders. Mr. Harley said the matter was not one to be lightly dealt with.
