“SALUTE THE KIWI”
N.Z.E.F. Official News Service. SOUTHERN ITALY, May. 15. In an editorial, “Salute tbe Kiwi, . the “Crusader,” the well-known British Armv weekly now published in Italy, pays’ tribute to the New Zealanders who have served in the Middle East. All of us in this theatre have known the New Zealanders and many of us have known them a long time,” states the paper “For these things we have known them —their oaky hardness; their sturdy independence ; their dry, sane humour. In the field, we have known them for their distinctive if eccentric attire—a woollen can with comforters worn like skull cups, <ryev cardigans and for the minute but inescapable nod of the head which is their greeting for all passers-by. Above all, wo have known them for their deeds in Greece and Crete, at. Sidi Rezegh and Alamein, at El Mamma and Enfidaville, and latterly in Italy.”
