MOVING CORRIDOR

Mr. F. Castle’s retirement from th® position of chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board was referred’ to yesterday at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Free Ambulance Board, of Which Mr. Castle is a member. The president, Sir Charles Norwood, congratulated Mr. Castle on the long and faithful service he had given the city, as member and chairman of the hospital board and member of the Free Ambulance board I o him and to others, it had always been Obvious that the services of these two institutions had been closely associated. It seemed as though the Free Ambulance served as a moving corridor, hnk in f! U P the various branches of the W ellington Hospital. He understood that there were some 15 units in the hospital district, and the existence of such a service as the Free Ambulance had made for easa in co-ordination. , Mr Castle said he was afraid that he had been conspicuous by his absence at meetings of the Free Ambulance Board, but had kept well in touch with its activities through Mr. Purvis. He could recall when the hospital was only served by a horse-drawn vehicle. The independent control established by the Free Ambulance had been, most efficient, and had kept well in line with the expansion of the city ami its needs.
