GOOD ENTERTAINMENT

Show In Concert Chamber

Produced and presented entirely by themselves, the entertainment given by members of the younger contingent of the Victoria League in Wellington drew a crowded audience to the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night. The show was of the same kind as is presented by the concert party at camps in and around Wellington, and proved popular, applause being given generously. . . Legionnaires and dancing girls in costume appeared with appropriate songs and dances in the opening numbers. Lata the performers wore khaki shirts, anklets and black berets as members of a tank brigade. From the provocative black and white of Parisian can-can dancers in the “Gay Nineties,” the scene changed to 'New Zealand and the rhythmic chants aud graceful poi numbers of Maori items in costume. The girls have become skilled in these and the applause they drew forth was deserved. There were soldier sketches, violin and vocal solos and dances. New dance tunes. popular songs and some old favourite melodies were cleverly blended to make the entertainment most enjoyable. Proceeds are for the league s Gertrude Drayton Memorial Fund. Mrs. B. McKiniay was producer, Miss Evelyn Maefarlaiie, pianist. Miss Dorothy Tate, ballet mistress, Miss Nell Kendall, business manager, and Miss Evelyn stage manager.
