Encouragement Wanted For Independents A resolution that some special effort should be made to encourage and enlist independent workers in all branches or natural science was adopted by tne council of the Royal Society of ” c ' v Zealand at its annual meeting m eilington yesterday. . Tr Moving the motion, Mr. G. I. Hudson said that most scientific men today were university or Government workers, ine independent worker was at a great disadvantage and received very little assistance. The man without a university degree was regarded as no one. Dr. O. H. Frankel said that the day of the true independent worker hud passed. Scientists today had to work in a community. New bodies tor adult education should provide a framework for non-professionnl scientists. Dr. G. Archey (Auckland) supported the resolution, but denied that men 'without degrees were despised, as also did Dr. D. MiUer..(Nelson).
