GOVERNMENT NOMINEE
Reason For Change At
Patea
Dominion Special, Service.
NEW PLYMOUTH, May 17. The replacement of Mr. F, Parsons, chairman of the Patea Harbour Board, by Mr. E. L. Tregoweth, organizer for the Labour candidate in the Patea electorate at the general election, as Government nominee on the board was effected to give another an opportunity of performing public service of that nature. This was the effect of the reply of the Minister Of Marine, Mr. O’Brien, to the Hawera Borough Council's resolution expressing disapproval of the termination of the services of Mr. Parsons. After expressing appreciation of the excellent service rendered by Mr. Parsons, the Minister said: “I also think, however, that on reflection the council will appreciate that it is quite equitable for an opportunity to be given to others from time to time to perform a public service of this nature, and it is solely ■for this reason that the new appointment was made. I trust that this frank statement of the facts will serve to make the position entirely clear,” “It is a wonderful reply,” commented the jpayor, Mr. L. H, Clapham. “They do not seem to be doing that with Ministers.”
