JAMES HALL, WOBURN, NEXT TUESDAY. ' OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO MOTHERS. HEAR THE TRUTH ABOUT THE MILK SITUATION. VOTE CROFT FOR COUNCIL & HARBOUR BOARD WELLINGTON SLUMS ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, MR. APPLETON YOUR TORY CITY COUNCIL HAS NOT ONLY ALLOWED THEM TO REMAIN A BLOT ON OUR CITY, BUT HAS APPROVED OF THEM AS FIT HOMES FOR THE PEOPLE. This advertisement is addressed to you, Mr. Appleton, as leader of your team of Nationalists parading under the pseudonym of “Citizens.” It is addressed to you because your team is behind you, and. you speak for tbe team. It is addressed to you because . • t WE HAVE SEEN THIS TORY-RIDDEN CITY’S SLUMS AND WE HAVE SEEN THE BLOCKS OF EXPENSIVE FLATS BUILT BY YOUR PARTY’S FRIENDS DURING RECENT YEARS. You will recall that nine years ago the Wellington Hospital Board (with a Citizens' Ticket chairman) removed a sick woman and her four children from their abode in Taranaki Street, a 7ft. by 7ft. converted coal-shed, ratinfested and adjoining two conveniences. The Board had this disgusting slum vacated. But your Tory City Council hag not only allowed it to remain but has permitted it to be re-occupied: You “found a home’’ for someone else. . While you were giving permits for the erection of expensive flats to private enterprise, did you not think of building municipal homes and flats at reasonable rentals and getting rid of tbe slums. As a wealthy flat-owner, Mr. Appleton, you should know something of the need for proper housing. It is no use telling the people money, men and material have not been available—they were available when you gave building permits to your party’s friends. The slums were with us then. As long as you remain in office with your Tory team those slums are likely to be with us —and there are many of them. If such blots on our city can be given another name they will be known and.regarded as. a monument to your party’s neglect. ' YOU AND YOUR PARTY ARE ON THE DEFENSIVE—AND YOU KNOW YOUR POLITICAL DAYS ARE NUMBERED—THE DAY IS SATURDAY AND THE NUMBER IS THE 27TH. DO YOU WONDER THAT THE GLOVES ARE REALLY OFF, MR. APPLETON?
