City Theatres “Stage Door Canteen" (King’s).— A story of love in wartime, bringing to the screen In one film 48 great celebrities of the screen, stage and concert platform and six famous American bands. “Hit tho Ice” (St. James).—The two comedy kings, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, have arrived In their latest and font niest film as aces on ice, and with a brand new lot of mirthful gags. It will be a hilarious season. “King Arthur Was a Gentleman” (State). —Big-hearted Arthur Askey Is In all kinds of trouble when be joins the army, and is a great comedy success. Coining Friday: “Hi Diddle Diddle.” “The Major and the Minor” (Regent).— Something right out of the ordinary in comedy, with Ginger Rogers and Bay Milland as the stars. “Victory Through Air power" (Plaza).'— Based ou the sensational book by Major de Seversky. Also Walt Disney’s latest “Saludos Amigos,” which introduces Disney’s old favourites in a new setting, plus Joe Carioea, the Brazilian jitterbird. Next change: “Forever and a Day.” “Young Ideas” (De Luxe).—Susan Peters and Herbert Marshall in romantic comedy. Associate feature: Ricardo Cortez and Jean Parker iii “Tomorrow We Live.” “For Me And My Gal” (Paramount).—A cheerful musical with Judy Garland and George Murphy singing and dancing. Gene Kelly also slugs and dances, but sometimes acts. Van Hellin stars in the second feature, “Kid Glove Killer.” Friday: “Journey For Margaret” and “Calling Dr. Gillespie.” “Best Foot Forward” (Majestic).—Another lavish M.G.M. musical production complete with technicolour, comedy, and Harry James. Lucille Ball and William Gaxton keep the storv moving without working too hard. Starting Friday: “I Dood It,” with Red Skelton. “Cinderella Swings It” (Tudor).—Starring Gloria Warren and Guy Klbbee. The associate film is “Sagebrush Law,” wtth Tim Holt grasping the six-shooters and trying to look as though he had never heard of Orson Welles. Tomorrow: “The Falcon Takes Over” aud “Syncopation.” “Naughty Marietta” (Opera House).— One of the most popular of all films returns again next Friday. Nelson Eddy and Jeanette Macdonald are the stars. “Fingers At the Window” (Tivoli). —A. hair raising, blood-curdling, spine-tingling, mystery starring Lew Ayres and Laraine Day. Norma Shearer and Tyrone Power star in the second feature “Marie Antoinette.”
