COUNCIL’S CONCERN
Prefabricated Classrooms The Petone Borough Council recently forwarded a letter of protest regarding the lack of accommodation at the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College and the erection of prefabricated buildings to the Director of Education. A reply has been received from the Education Department, in which it is explained that the prefabricated buildings were merely a temporary measure, and the department hoped that under the circumstances they would receive the approval of the council. At Monday night’s meeting of the council, Cr. J. Cumming said he always objected to temporary buildings, which had a habit of becoming permanent, but. if an assurance was given that permanent buildings would be erected as early, as possible, he would not oppose the erection of the prefabricated buildings. A motion was finally passed that provided the Government would give an assurance that permanent buildings would be erected at an early date the council would not object to the prefabricated classrooms.
