"Stags Door Canteen” (King s).—-A story of love in wartime, bringing to the screen in one film 48 great celebrities of the screen, stage and concert platform ana six famous American bands. “Hit the Ice” (St. James).—The two comedy kings, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, have arrived in their latest and funniest film as aces on ice, and with a brand new lot of mirthful gags. It will be a hilarious season. “King Arthur Was a Gentleman” (State). —Big-hearted Arthur Askey is in all kinds of trouble when he joins the army, and is a great comedy success. Coming Friday: “Hi Diddle Diddle."
“Tim Major and the Minor” (Regent).— Something right out of the ordinary In eomedy, with Ginger Rogers and Ray Milland as the stars. “Victory Through Air Power” (Plaza).— Based on the sensational book by Major de Seversky. Also Walt Disney’s .latest “Saludos Amigos," which introduces Disney’s old favourites in a new setting, plus Joo Carioca, the Brazilian jitterbird. Next change: “Forever and a Day.” “Heart of tlie Golden West” (De Luxe). —Roy Rogers moving about in a hail of lead, followed by Bob Nolan and Ruth Terry. An entertaining film, “Mokey,” is the supporting feature. Starting Thursday: “Young Ideas.” "For Me And My Gal” (Paramount).—A cheerful musical with Judy Garland and George Murphy singing and dancing. Gene Kelly also sings and’ dances, but sometimes acts. Van Heflin stars in the second feature, “Kid Glove Killer.” Friday: “Journey For Margaret” and “Calling Dr. Gillespie.” “Best Foot Forward” (Majestic).—Another lavish M.G.M. musical production complete with technicolour, comedy, and Harry James. Lucille Ball and William Gaxton keep the story moving without working too hard. "Cinderella Swings It” (Tudor).—Starring Gloria Warren aud Guy Kibbee. The associate film is “Sagebrush Law,” with Tim Holt grasping the six-shooters and trying to look as though he had never heard of Orson Welles. "Naughty Marietta” (Opera House).— One of the most popular of all films returns again next Friday. Nelson Eddy and Jeanette Macdonald are the stars. “Fingers At the Window” (Tivoli). —A hair raising, blood-curdling, spine-tingling, mystery starring L?w Ayres and Laraine Day. Norm-a Shearer and Tyrone Power star in the second feature “Marie Antoinette.” suburbapTtheatres Aseot (Newtown). —"Sporting Blood” and “I Killed That Man.” Vogue (Brooklyn).—"Flight For Freedom” and “Captive Wild Woman.” Rivoli (Newtown). —"Beau Geste” and “Boston Blackie G'oes to Hollywood.” “Capitol (Miramar). —"Pinocchio” and “Jacuass Mail.” Tatler (Lyall Bay).—“Dumbo” and “Hullabaloo.” Prince Edward (Woburn). —“Here We Go Again” and “Underground Agent.” King George (Lower Hutt).—No screening tonight. Starting Wednesday, “The Affairs of Martha.” De Luxe (Lower Hutt). —“The Mad Martindales” and “Red River Valley.’’ Empire (Island Bay).— “Rhythm On lee” and “Salute For Three.” Klnema (KUblrnle). —“The Spoilers” and "Chetniks.” Regal (Karori). —“Counter Espionage” and “What’s Cooking.”
