PROPOSED CIVIC CENTRE
The following bus been received from the Citizens’ Combined Committee in reference to a recent statement of Mr. Will Appleton on the proposed civic centre in Wellington :— “At a municipal election meeting held in the Parish Hall. Karori, Mr. Will Appleton, Citizens’ candidate for the mayoralty, made a statement regarding the proposed open civic centre. Mr. Appleton said that he wns in favour of a scheme providing for an open space on the triangle nt present occupied by tbe old Pulflic Library nnd Education Board buildings, with the incorporation of Mercer Street in the open area. He slated, howevei*. that it would be necessary for the council to provide for the immediate accommodation of the city engineer’s department, and to meet the need a small extension, approximately 65 feet from the original rear wall, has been designed and will be built to harmonize with the present architecture of the Town Hall. “The Citizens’ Combined Committee heartily approve of Mr. Appleton’s statement and are sure it will meet with strong tin bile support.”
