RABBITS IN FAVOUR
Welcome Addition To Menu With the strict rationing of meat — stricter regulations arc being imposed today —the rabbit, so long consitb-rtd an almost intolerable nuisance to those on the land, is coming into high favour as an article of food. Already the numtier of rabbit shooters and trappers has increased considerably in rabbit-infested areas, on account of the new market which lias opened all over New Zealand. Many thousand rabbits are being killed every week, and quantity sold at the Wellington markets has visibly increased during the last three months. Most of the restaurants, which hitherto scorned to have anything to do with rabbit meat, are reported to have changed their views and made it a staple dish in one form or another —rabbit pie. stewed rabbit, creamed imbbit and curried rabbit. One restaurant manager admitted that he placed rabbit on the menu three times a week and on those days got through 120 rabbits. Sueh was the appreciation by the public that on occasions there was not sufficient to go round toward the ami of tia luncheon hour.
