I. Lovelock’s, well-known Friesland Punt Stud, and tlic first bull used was that great sire Royal Coiautha of Friesland Park whose dam was Queen Colantha Cadillac, 8031 b. butterfat. Oue of the aged cows in the offering Is Fairdale Colautim Cadillac, 7021 b. of fat C.O.R. (a winner ot show championships and a proved butterfat producer), and she was sired by Fairdale Coiautha Echo, a champion prizewinner at Palmerston North Show. It is from these butter-fat strains the present herd has been built up. Eight of the heifers taken. Into the herd last year were from dams returning over 4001 b. butter-fat. The cows have been depasturing with Fairdale Champion Buster, whose dam is Fairdale Segis Belle—tracing back to King Segis of Friesland Park. Eight of the cows will be in milk, 9 are due in May to July, 10 ip August and, the balance in September, as this herd has been milked for city and school supply. No. 10432. The “Woodlands” herd was founded with. Imported animals, or close up descendants of imported cattle. Bulls Imported included “Ermltano” arid “Eland ot Bleaton,” both of which w-ere from the famous Beautv family of Keillor, and did much to build up the name of “Woodlands.” Among the females brought out were “Proud Peggy” of the "Erica’’ strain, “Pride of Mulben 44th," "Pride of Aberdeen 532nd” and “Bunty of Mulben.” In 1926, when, the entire herd was sold, the late Mr. R. R. Burling selected and purchased 15 females from the best breedihg families, and since then the "Erica” and "Pride of Aberdeen” strains have had a controlling influence. Cows.sold at the sale in 1926 have bred, particularly well wherever they went. “Carthage of Gwavas.” sire ot thq two bulls sold at Dannevlrkc last October for C5O gns. and 520gns. respectively, is out of “Rose ot Woodlands." The top-priced animal at the Ben Lomond Sale was sired by “Count of Woodlands," who also sired nianv Show winners. This sale gives breeders a wonderful opportunity of securing high-class animals of undoubted breeding and quality.
