Late War News HUGE BARRAGE

Eighth Army Men In Spearhead ATTACK IN ITALY Liri River Crossed LONDON, May 12. The attack in Italy was preceded by the heaviest artillery barrage yet put down in that theatre of war. A correspondent states that more guns were brought to bear than at El Alamelu, and Hie bombardment went ou hour after hour. Eighth Army troops are forming the spearhead of the attack between Cassino and the coast. They crossed the Liri River in rafts an'd rubber boats, aud are now locked in grim combat in the strong defences the enemy has built up. There is no doubt that every German in the Gustav Line and the Adolf Hitler Line behind it has received orders to fight to the death.
