ABORTION CHARGE FAILS

The charge against Lila Anderson, nurse, aged 56. of unlawfuly using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage was heard by the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) and a jury iu the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. She was acquitted when the evidence for the prosecution had been heard, without the jury leaving tlie courtroom. The jury formally returned the verdict of not guilty at the direction of his Honour, who said that reasonable proof of the charge had not been produced. Anderson was discharged. Mr. AV. R. Birks conducted the prosecution aud Mr. G. Joseph appeared for accused.
