County Councillors Retire

Cr. H. J. Monaghan, who has been a member of the Makara County Council since its inception, intimated to the council yesterday that he did not intend to seek re-election, as he felt that the time bad arrived when he should make way for a better man. The chairman, Mr. R. W. Bothamley, on behalf of the ratepayers of the county, thanked Cr. Monaghan for the long and faithful service he had given on the council, and hoped he would be long spared to enjoy the rest he had so well earned Cr. F. Bradey, who has 'been a member of the Hutt County Council for the past 18 'years, and does not intend to seek reelection, was farewelled at yesterdays meeting of the council. The chairman, Mr. R. L. Button, said Cr. Bradey came from a family of pioneers who had- been in the district for Iw vears. On behalf of the ratepayers, he thanked Cr. Bradey for the work he had done for the county over a period ot 1« years, and asked him to accept an easy chair as a token of their gratitude. All the other councillors paid high tributes to Cr. Bradey’s long and valuable services to the county. ~ In returning thanks, Cr. Bradey said his work on the council had been a labour of love, and he had enjoyed every minute of it.
