RELIGIOUS NOTICES. CHIUSTADELPHIAN LECTURE, 1.0.0. F. HALL, ALLEN STREET (Opp. Paramount Theatre), Courtenay Place, SUNDAY, at 7 p.m. Subject: » "SCRIPTURE WRESTED TO SUPPORT FABLES.’ “ . . . IN WHICH ARE SOME THINGS HARD TO BE UNDERSTOOD, WHICH THEY THAT ARE UNLEARNED AND UNSTABLE WREST, AS THEY DO ALSO THE OTHER SCRIPTURES, UNTO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION." (2 Pet. 3:16.) In the course of the series of Lectures, “Turned untb Fables,” concluded last Sunday, evidence was produced from the Scriptures to show that the “fables" taught in the Churches of Christendom fulfil the Apostle Paul’s prediction in 2 Tim. 4:3-4. It was shown that such doctrines as the immortality of the'soul, consciousness in the death state, heaven-goiag at death, and hell-fire torments were “fables” not taught in the Bible. The object of this week’s lecture is to consider some of those “wrested” Scriptures which are usually advanced in support of the foregoing “fables.” It will be shown that in reality there Is no support for the “fables” of Christendom In such Scriptm'es which cau be explained in harmony with the true teaching of the Bible as contended for in the recent scries of lectures. The passages which will be particularly considered are:— (1) Christ’s words to the thief on the cross (Luke 23:39-43). (2) The parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). (3) Paul’s "desire to depart aud to be with Christ” (PhiL 1:21-23). (4) Paul’s words—“ Absent from the body . . . present with the Lord” (2 Cor, 5:1-10). (6) Christ’s words —“In My Father's house are many mansions” (John 14:1-3). (6) Any other passage advanced at question time. “STUDY TO SHOW THYSELF ... A WORKMAN THAT NEEDETH NOT TO BE ASHAMED RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD'OF TRUTH” (Paul—2 Tim. 2:15). QUESTIONS INVITED. NO COLLECTION. N.B.—ln the “Evening Post” of the 6th inst. the Editor of the “Watchman,” Box 1303, Wellington, challenged us to prove the truth of our advertised lecture, “Holl Fire Torments,” a fable. We accept his challenge and Invite him and all others believing this fable to attend the above advertised lecture, in the course of which the doctrine of “Hell Fire Torments” will be refuted from the Holy Scriptures. We have no interest in the challenger’s unscriptural offer of £1000; bur only desire is to prove from the Scriptures the fallacy of this doctrine, ‘‘Hell Fire Torments." The above and other "wrested Scriptures” are explained in harmony with “the truth” as revealed in the Bible in the book, “Christendom Astray.” A copy will be sent free on application to “Bible Truth,” Box 08, Lower Hutt.
