Final Decision In West
LONDON, May 10. ‘The final decision will take place in the west. This will be the most modern ■battle ever waged,” said Field-Marshal Rommel, addressing soldiers upon a recent visit to the Atlantic Wall defences, according to the Berlin radio* . Rommel added: “Every officer must know this, and I therefore demand that every commander shall know every one of our weapons and the enemy’s weapons. We must think in a more modern manner and use more imagination. We must be able to face the most modern weapons which have ever been used.” Reuter's Moscow correspondent reporls that the King has awarded the G.B.E. to Marshal VassileVsky, the Soviet Chief of Staff. It was one of 181 British decorations conferred on officers and men of the Red l Army, navy and air force, and was handed over by the British Ambassador. Sir Archibald Clark Kerr, to Mr. Molotov. Ten senior Red Army generals and one air force general were awarded the K.B.E.
