Late War News NAVAL THREAT

Coastal Invasion Of Rumania (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyright.) (Received May 11. 12.40 a.m.) LONDON, May 10. 'The correspondent of the British United Press says it is expected in Mos cow that Sebastopol's great harbour (one of the finest in Europe), and the belt or airfields round the -city, will become a springboard for new Soviet offensives against Rumania, the coastline of which is bared to attacks from the air and from the sea. Speculation is rife in Moscow as to whether a sea-borne invasion may be attempted behind the enemy lines while the Bed Army resumes the land offensive against Rumania. The city’s fall is hailed in Moscow as one of the major victories of the war. Last night’s gun salute was Moscow’s noisest since the raising of the seige of Leningrad. “Pravda,” in a leading article, says: “Rumania learns Sebastopol’s fall with terror, for it spells the approach of her hour of retribution. The city’s fall heralds fresh blows.”. Fall Not Admitted. Reuter’s Moscow correspondent reports that Berlin so far has not admitted the fall of Sebastopol. The German overseas agency’s military commentator says: “The fighting for Sebastopol so far has brought no decisive change in the general position on the Eastern Front. The German strategical air offensive against the Russian lines of communication is the main feature on the southern, front. The Luftwaffe for 14 days has been bombing the Russian preparatious for new attacks.”

Vichy radio says that Berlin’s eyes are now on the Lvov-Galatz Gap, which is probably the Russians’ next objective.
