(Received Mnv 10, 11 p.m.) LONDON, .Ifay 10. “In the uncertain days before us Her Majesty is reluctant to promise to fulfil any engagement which might possibly prevent her from undertaking at short notice, some call having an immediate hearing on the needs of war.” This was stated in a letter in which the Queen apologized for her inability last night to attend the centenary festival of the Shaftesbury Society, caring for poor crip pled children in London. Her Majesty emphasized that her absence did not arise front lack of interest iu the society s work.
