GALLOPS AT TE RAPA

Course Enveloped In Fog Dominion Special Service. HAMILTON, May 9. Conditions have seldom been worse for the galloping programme at Te Rapa than they were this morning. Thick fog enveloped the course till a late hour and only those horses who were sent over a round of the course proper could be timed. In all other instances, the pegs were completely obscured. As. the fog lifted, a number of jumpers were schooled, -but here again only a portion of the work was discernible. On the flat, Night Comedy and Borak finished en terms at the completion of a circuit in 2.20, and "Boystown was clear of Abbey Lu in 2.15. Koureka clocked 2.20 and Leigh Hark, after jumping two hurdles well, ran once round in similar time. Of the other jumpers, Disturbed and Verqs were associated in a schooling bout over two hurdles. Both gave their characteristic finished display. Tamaku and The Dude negotiated seven fences of the steeplechase country and handled the task pleasingly. Black Musk, Royal Jay, Bronzemore and Forest Glen started out together over eight fences. Black Musk baulked at the sod wall, -but on being taken back negotiated this obstacle safely and completed the balance of the task in good style. Royal Jay fell at the sod wall, but Bronzemore and Forest Glen went on to finish on terms after a good exhibition of fencing.

Should Improve. Lincoln has been a decided failure on the flat, but it would appear as if he will make, up leeway as a hurdler. It was a good performance for a novice to worry the more seasoned Maggiore in Saturday’s hurdle race at Ashburton, and had he not lost considerable ground and become unbalanced through hitting the second fence very hard a different story may have had to be recorded. Lincoln is bred and built on the right lines for the game and has shown ability to stay. He is by Foxbridge from Love Story, by Romeo from Thurnley, by Thurnham. Half-Brother to Sir Hugh. Lyndon Lea, winner of the Trial Stakes at Ashburton, is a- five-year-old gelding by -Myosotls from Mistress Quickly, by Solferino from Dame Straitlace. He was bred by the late Mr. D. O. Rutherford, Rlccar ton, and is being raced by -Mr. W. O. Ruth erford. He was put into work last season. but went amiss and was givln a long spell, being recommissioned last January and he did not have his first race till Mare'; last at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Lvndon Lea finished third to High Ideal and Irish ’ Note over a mile at Rlccarton on April 15, and a week later ran an encouraging race in the Middle East Handicap, seven furlongs, being fourth to the straight and finishing seventh. He Is a half-brother to Sir Hugh.
