Auckland teachers of English who met to discuss the Government report on the post-primary school curriculum unanimously agreed with the report’s suggestion that written exercises should include such imaginative writing as short dramatic scenes for acting, though it was regretted that no reference had been made to the encouragement of writing in metrical forms. The Government report stated that dramatic work should include not only Shakespeare, but dramatic activity (based on the child’s own life, and modern plays.
