Campaign For Roosevelt <RCCei 9. Firing the opening shots in the campaign to re-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt as President of the Unifed States, the Democratic national chairman, Mr. Robert Hannegan, and Senator Barkley, in speeches at the annual Jefferson pay dinner, hailed the President’s leadership, accepted Thomas Dewey as the. Repub- . lican opponent, and criticized the. latter’s views on foreign affairs. Mr. Hannegan • pictured President Roosevelt as ‘‘fit’and ready for the fight, despite malicious rumours to the contrary.” He added that “the people of the United States are determined that 'Roosevelt shall complete the assignment which destiny gave him."
