STREET DAY APPEAL

“Cr. Appleton is not stating facts as known by the bowling green appeal committee,” said Mr. J. R. Collins, secretary of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee, and a member of the disabled servicemen's bowling green committee, in replying to a further statement by Cr. Appleton concerning the city .council’s attitude on the committee’s request for a street day“Mr. Appleton complains that I began my statement as secretary of the L.R.C. ai|l finished by quoting a letter I had seen as a member of the bowling green committee: not only had I seen the letter, but I have a copy of it. and I make sure of my facts before putting them into print. I have even taken the trouble to inquire as to whether any reply has been received by the secretary of the bowling green committee to our request for reconsideration, and at 10.30 a.m. today the answer to the inquiry was ‘No.’ The object of the application for a permit has been achieved, and the L.R.C. does not intend to take the matter any further.”

The council’s attitude had been clearly stated in “The Dominion” on Monday and previously, when its decision to reconsider was reported, said Cr, Appleton. Apparently Mr. Collins was the only person unsatisfied and that, in his position as L.R.C- secretary, not as a member of the green appeal committee.
