TACTICS AGAINST PATRIOTS
Trickery And Terror By Germans PETAIN TRANSFER ('By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received May 8, 8.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 7. The Nazis are attempting to trick the Allied underground movements in Europe into exposing themselves prematurely before the invasion starts, according to reports from the Office of War Information. The German duplicity includes the issuing of false orders “signed” by General de Gaulle, distributing bogus newspapers, dropping leaflets from planes with R.A.F. markings, beaming broadcasts from “freedom stations,” and giving false invasion dates. Furthermore, Gestapo agents ride incognito on trains and trams, and attempt to lure patriots into political discussions. Other agents masquerade as political agents trying to escape from Germany. , ~ , ~ Vichy radio announced that tne French State railways are reducing their train services as from May la. To counteract the growing resistance among patriots, the Germans have intensified their terror campaign m France. It is reported that 200,000 Frenchmen were detained following a recent roundup and that 10,000 of them were sent to concentration camps and many shot. Paris radio stated that Marshal Petain left Vichy today for a locality in the Paris region, “where he will stay temporarily in order to be near the population of Paris in her grave hours."
