THREE CHILDREN DROWNED

Te Kauwhata Tragedy

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 8. Three young Maori children, two sisters and their brother, lost their lives in a drowning accident at Te Kauwhata. They were: Martha de Thierry’, aged 12. John de Thierry, aged 9. Ruth de Thierry, aged 6. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. George de Thierry, Te Kauwhata. The three children are believed to have gone to Lake Waikare unaccompanied on Sunday morning and they were not missed till they failed to return for tea' that night. The discovery of an upturned flat-bottomed boat on the shores of the lake, together with some children’s clothing. led to fears for their safety. The lake was dragged today, when the three bodies were located close together about 30 yards from the shore.
