“Stage Door Canteen” (King’s).—A story of love in wartime, bringing to the screen in one film 48 great celebrities of the screen, stage and concert platform and six famous American bands. The supports include pictures of wartime activities in Kew Zealand and the islands. ' “We’ll Smile Again” (Paramount).— Flanagan and Allen at their best are hard to beat, and in this film they are at the top of their form. The associate feature is “Shadow of a Doubt,” starring Teresa Wrigirt and Joseph Cotten. "Top Man” (De Luxe).—An unusual mixture of comedy, song and swing, starring Donald O’Connor. Associate feature Is “The Payoff,” with Lee Tracy, Tom Brown and Tina Thayer in a thrili-a-minute murder mystery. Special children’s matinees da "HerB to Hold" (St. James).-glorious entertainment with Deanna Durbin dillgently breaking into song at every opportunity. Joseph Cotten, however, strengthened by his partnership with Orson Weiles. maintains a good performance. Also New Zealand troops in action in the Pacific. Also Walt Disney’s latest “Saludos Amigos,” which introduces Disney’s old favourites in a new setting, plus Joe Carioca, the Brazilian- jitterbird. “Pinocchio" (Tatler, Lyall Bay).—Presented in multiplane colour and set to music, Walt Disney’s glorious story of the merrj r little man; also Laurel ani Hardy, the old laugh team, happily highjinking as Air Raid Wardens.” “White Cargo” . (Tivoli).—The fierce clash of stirring tropical passions, with Hedy Lamarr as the alluring, dangerous temptress, Ton delay o. Co-starred with her is Walter Pidgeon, bf dramatic fame.
