DUCK SHOOTING
Disappointing Bags In Wairarapa Dominion Special Service. MASTEBTON, May 8. \ The duck-shooting season on Waira' rapa Lake which opened on Saturday was disappointing. Because of the claim conditions the ducks settled in the middle of the main lake well out of range of the shooters’. No limit bags have so far been reported, though almost everyone got their quota of black swans. Out, of 13 guns operating at the north-eastern end of the lake, the biggest bag for th" two days’ shooting was 12 ducks. In the lower lake area iwo shooters got six ducks and six swans. A Wellington shooter. Mr. .1. UheeGCman, got into difficulties ou the opening morning when lie slipped from his maimai in a lagoon at the Featherston end of the lake. He fell into deep water and, burdened with gumboots, was in a dangerous plight. His calls for assistance were heard by his partner, who rushed over in his motor-boat and pulled
him out of the water. He was taken ashore to a friend’s house.
