Islands Raided In Pacific (British Official Wireless.) (Received May 7, 7 p.m.) “RUGBY, May 6. United States Army bombers dumped 87 tons of bombs on Ponape on Thursday, states a Navy Department communique. Liberators attacked Truk on Friday and encountered only light anti-air-craft fire. Raids on Paramushiru, Nauru, Ponape and the Marshalls were reported in an earlier communique. Navy Venturas bombed Paramushiru on the night of May 3, causing explosions and large fires. Venturas also bombed barracks and runways on Nauru Island, and Mitchells hit the runways on two airfields on Ponape Island on Mjty 2. Other bombers and fighters attacked the remaining enemy positions in the Marshalls on May 3, hitting the magazine area and gun positions.
