Japanese Threat In China (Received May 7, 7 p.m.) CHUNGKING, May 6. A Chinese communique has announced that the Japanese, advancing 25 miles north of Singyang, have captured liioshan, on the Peiping-Hankow railway. The enemy in Honan have forced a crossing of the Yi River, and have been engaged by Chinese troops nine miles south of Loyahg. Two columns are attacking Paofeng. The Japanese have captured Linjti, south of Loyang, and are trying to locate the main strength of the Chinese forces for a decisive battle. '
Loyang is situated on a vital railway and road linking the north China plains with western China. The Unitetl Press quotes a Tokio broadcast by Major Yuki, a Japanese army spokesman, in which he says the American intention to open a general offensive against Japan from bases MT China had been miserably smashed by the Japanese campaign in Honan Province.
The defence of Chungking would be seriously affected by the Japanese operations.
