Bad Health The Reason NO CONDITIONS IMPOSED LONDON, May 5.
It is officially announced that the Government of India has decided to release Mahatma Gandhi from detention in view of the medical report of his health. He is being set free early tomorrow morning. No conditions haye been attached to his r6 Since August, 1942, Mr. Gandhi has been detained at Poona because the open rebellion which he was trying to bring about would have threatened the security of India as a vital base for the United Nations in the war against Japan. There is no sign that Mr. Gandhi has renounced his views, and his relense is being made solely on medical grounds. He is 74 years of age, and has been suffering from malaria. His condition recently gave rise to some anxiety. A medical report issued by Gandhi’s doctor soon after his release stated that Gandhi had become very weak aS the result of malaria and was suffering from physical and mental exhaustion.
