METAL INDUSTRY
Part In War Effort
The metal industry was undoubtedly one of the most important industries in the Dominion, said Mr. N. W. Thomas, chairman of the Wellington Metal Trade Group, in his address at the annual meeting. Not only had it played a major part in the production of munitions, but it was essential to other industries in repairing and making new parts for their equipment to enable them to continue to function. The engineering industry had shown to an extent never previously realized just what its potential capabilities were.
The need for the industry to have a national organization was stressed by Mr. Thomas. Some headway had already been made in the formation of a national committee representing the four main centres under the Manufacturers' Federation. It was important that the industry should speak with one voice in order to make its requirements known to the Government. The following executive was elected : —- Chairman, Mr. H. F. Beynon; vice-chair-man. Mr. F. A. Toombs: treasurer, Mr. W. Kenyon; committee, Messrs. K. Pallo, It. Burn, J. Gifford, J. Manning. N. W. Thomas. T. W. Featherston, W. Kenyon, Nelson Jones, T. Gunderson. It. D. Greenwood, B. G. Stephens, L. Southward.
