Miss Jean Campbell To Study In U.S.A.
Cabled, news has just been received in Wellington that ' Hiss Jean Campbell, national youth secretary of the I.W .C.A. of New Zealand, has arrived iu the united States of America, where she is to take a special refresher course iu social work in New York. She will also spend a month in Washington, where the wartime international headquarters of Hie association is established, and before returning to the Dominion next May will visit Canada to study social conditions, specially among war workers in nidustlJ Jliss Campbell is. a Canadian girl, whose family lives in Vancouver. Sli.i came to New Zealand almost live years ago from the Vancouver Y.W.C.A., and on her return will remain here lor two years tit least. She will be.in Wus-hing-ton for the Y.W.C.A. Week of the Y orld Fellowship in November, and will represent New Zealand. Ju. A\ashingtou. New York rind Canada, opportunity wil be afforded Miss Campbell for stqdy ami observation with the various city associations. In .January, she will «*{ course at the New York School of Social Work. .. , ~, All tbe expenses of Miss CauipbeU s Washington visit will be generously met, and the U.S.A, national board has agreed to pay living . expenses while in New York. Possibly, too, it may be able to pay for her study course and observation visits to the associations. . One of the few graduates of social science in New- Zealand. . Miss Campbell, obtained her diploma after taking a post-graduate course at tile university of British Columbia, of which she is a graduate, majoring in history and philosophy. As a Y.W.C.A. secretary she has on three occasions attende l Hie National Coufc-renco of Social Work organized in the United Stales and Canada, and iu .1988, in addition, was a delegate at the World's Youth Congress held st Vassar College, and at the World's Council of tbe Y.AV.C.A. held in the Muskoka district. . New Zealand Y.M .G.A. is confident: that Miss Campbell will return with much valuable knowledge and many new ideas that will be invaluable to her in her work among girls.
