Vice-Regal Residence

Sir _The suggestion that part of the Botanical Gardens described as a wilderness of scrub, be reserved for a vieeRegal residence is to be deprecated. This is a popular area. The statement concerns tho town belt question, and such insidious encroachment on the city s nearest open space would cause wholesale agitation for concessions in neighbouring reserves. The need for a more suitable Vice-Regal residence is obvious but provision for a town belt has saved Wellington from disfigurement and it is unnecessary to destroy this great asset when space is available elsewhere. —I am, etc., HOSTILE. Karori, October 19.
