CARGO PILLAGING
Continued Trouble In Wellington
It is stated in Wellington that there is good ground for complaint about the amount of cargo pillaging which is going on. The secretary of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association; Mr. L. It. James, said yesterday that details of the pillaging being experienced by 'Wellington manufacturers from parcels dispatched from there, particularly of goods consigned to the South Island, were reaching the association continuously.
Two recent instances are tobacco and cigarettes to the value of £35, and more than half of a large dispatch of stockings. Since January of this year one member of the association has suffered seven instances of pillage, totalling almost £9O in value. With the object of correcting the position, members have been invited to advise the association monthly the total value of goods lost by pillage, for submission to the Government, and the question has been referred to the Dominion federation for action on a
