Huge Japanese Fleet In Pacific (Received October IS, 9.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October IS. The United Stales Navy Department disclosed that the Japanese in January concentrated* a huge fleet, including battieships and carriers, as well as a large force of aircraft between Truk and the Solomon Islands. A correspondent of the United Press of America says that the Japanese apparently intended to. seek a show-down, but suffered "cold feet” and concentrated on the evacuation of their forces remaining on Guadalcanal. _ The Americans have unsuccessfully tried to lure the Japanese into a test of naval strength several times since then, concludes the corresponden t. -
