MUTINY AND INTENT TO MURDER
U.S. Negro Troops Charged LONDON, October 15. Fourteen American coloured soldiers were charged witn mutiny at an American court-martial at Paignton, Devon, today. They were also charged with shooting witli intent to murder two American police sergeants and others in the square of the town, with rioting and unlawfully taking firearms, and with making inflammatory statements. The prosecution said that-on September 26 a group of soldiers, including the accused, armed themselves, obtained ammunition, and marched to the market square within a few yards of some military police. Firing started, and two of the police were wounded. A crowd in the square immediately dispersed. One witness said there were no British soldiers in the group.
