RAID ON SALONIKA

(British Official Wireless.) (Received October 17, 10 p.m.) RUGBY. October 16. A North African air communique notes increased enemy air opposition on the Fifth Army front and adds: “'Airfields at Salonika, in Greece, were attacked yesterday by medium bombers, escorted by Lightnings. Direct hits caused fires and explosions in the hangar areas. Photographs show that many parked aircraft were destroyed. “Our aircraft of various types were active over the Italian front, attacking enemy transport.”
